Google Workspace Partner in Kottayam

Tech Geum licenses, deploys, migrates and supports Google Workspace for businesses across Kottayam — invoiced in rupees with GST, supported in your own working hours.

Kottayam is the one district in Kerala where the argument for Google Workspace is a genuine product argument rather than a commercial one. This is a publishing town with a century of printing behind it, and in editorial work the collaborative document is not a convenience — it is the thing the business is made of.

The district

Letters, rubber and a great many institutions

Kottayam has been a publishing and printing centre for more than a century, and it was the first town in India declared fully literate. Alongside that sits the rubber trade — the district is the centre of India's rubber industry, with the plantation belt running up through Pala and Kanjirappally into the hills.

Around both is an unusual density of colleges and institutions, the backwater hospitality at Kumarakom on Vembanad, and the trading towns of Changanassery, Ettumanoor and Vaikom.

What those industries share is that their work runs in long cycles and produces documents that get referred back to years later. That shapes what actually matters in a productivity suite here, and it is not the same thing that matters in a trading district.

Editorial work

Where collaborative documents actually earn their keep

We are generally sceptical of feature arguments, because for most businesses the platform decision turns on cost, administration and what their devices already run. Publishing is the exception. Here the collaboration is the point, and it is the one thing Google does better than the alternatives by a clear margin.

Here, documents are not attachments — they are the product

A publishing house in Kottayam does not use documents to describe its work. The document is the work. That sounds like a distinction without a difference until you count how many people touch one manuscript before it prints, and how many of them are not in your building.

Suggesting rather than overwriting

An editor marking changes an author can accept or reject, in the same file, without either of them producing a new copy. This is the feature that most obviously earns its licence in an editorial business, and it is the one most people only discover after they stop emailing attachments.

Version history answers the argument

Who changed this line, and when. In editorial work that question is asked constantly and the honest answer is usually unavailable, because the evidence is spread across eleven emailed copies with slightly different filenames.

Contributors who are not employees

Authors, translators, freelance editors, designers and proofreaders. They need to work in your document without being given an account or broad access to everything else — which is a sharing decision worth making deliberately rather than solving with another attachment.

The honest limit: this covers drafting and review, not typesetting and print production, which most houses run in specialist software regardless. Where Google wins and where it does not is set out on our comparison page, which gives Microsoft more of the verdicts.

Long cycles

Work that gets referred back to years later

A title takes a year or more from commission to print. A supply arrangement runs across seasons. An admission cycle spans an academic year. By the time a question arises, the thread that settled it is long out of everybody's memory.

The work outlasts everybody's memory of it

A book takes a year or more from commission to print. A rubber supply arrangement runs across seasons. An admission cycle spans a full academic year. By the time a question arises, nobody remembers the thread it was settled in.

Which makes finding things a core capability

Search across mail and files is the feature people in long-cycle businesses mention most often, unprompted, a year after moving. It sounds unremarkable next to a feature list and it is the thing that actually gets used every day.

One place per project, not one inbox per person

A Shared Drive per title, per client or per season, owned by the company. The test is whether someone other than the original correspondent could reconstruct what was agreed — and in long-cycle work that person frequently has to.

Rights and terms need to still exist

Publishing contracts, translation rights, contributor agreements and supply terms are all settled in correspondence and all referred back to years later. Deciding retention as a policy rather than a habit is worth doing before somebody asks.

Where a retention obligation genuinely applies — and for contracts and rights it sometimes does — that decides the edition rather than the other way round. Covered on our pricing page.

Starting point

What Kottayam businesses are moving from

The destination is the same in every case. What sets the scope is what you are leaving — and for editorial businesses, how deeply the habit of emailing copies is embedded.

Moving fromTypicallyWhat the work actually is
Attachments and local filesPublishing houses, editorial teams and design studiosLess a migration than a change in how work happens. The files move easily; what takes effort is the habit of emailing copies, which is the thing actually costing you.
cPanel or website-bundled webmailRubber traders, plantation businesses and distributorsSmall quotas, weak filtering, rarely any authentication. Moves over IMAP, with gaps where staff have been deleting to stay under quota.
Personal @gmail.com accountsSmaller firms, agencies and family businessesQuick to move. The work is separating business from personal, and deciding what happens to correspondence when someone leaves mid-project.
An institutional or departmental serverColleges and larger institutionsOlder than expected and rarely documented. Accredited non-profit institutions may qualify for Google's Education editions rather than the business ones, which is worth establishing first.
Another Google tenantFirms that bought direct and never configured itNothing to migrate, but often a real rebuild: one organisational unit for everybody, sharing left open, super-admin on a personal account.

Districts bordering Kottayam

Landlocked between Ernakulam to the north, Idukki along the hills to the east, Pathanamthitta to the south and Alappuzha on the water to the west. The rubber belt runs across the Idukki line, and plenty of businesses here trade across all four.

Google Workspace in Kottayam — common questions

Do you have an office in Kottayam?

No. Tech Geum works from Angadippuram in Malappuram district and works with businesses across Kottayam remotely. For this kind of work that is not a constraint — domain verification, DNS and MX changes, tenant configuration, migration and admin handover are all done remotely wherever anyone sits. What being in Kerala does give you is someone reachable during your own working day, in Malayalam if that is easier, who already knows how your setup is configured.

We are a publisher. Is Google Docs genuinely good enough for editorial work?

For the collaborative half of it, better than the alternatives — and that is not a claim we make about Google Workspace generally. Several people working in one file at once, suggestions an author can accept or reject without producing a new copy, comments that thread, and version history that answers who changed a line and when. Where it is weaker is heavy typesetting and print production, which most houses run in specialist software regardless. The honest position is that Docs replaces the drafting and review stage well and does not replace your layout tools.

How do freelance editors and authors work on our documents?

By being given access to a specific document or folder rather than an account or broad access to everything. That is a sharing decision, and it is worth setting your external sharing policy deliberately — restricted to named parties rather than either blocked, which pushes people back to attachments, or wide open. Reviewing those shares when a project closes matters too, because the risk is not one bad decision but a hundred small ones nobody revisits.

Why does search matter so much for us?

Because the work outlasts everybody's memory of it. A title takes a year or more from commission to print, a supply arrangement runs across seasons, an admission cycle spans an academic year. When a question arises about what was agreed, nobody remembers which thread settled it. Search across mail and files is the capability people in long-cycle businesses mention most often, unprompted, a year after moving — and it is genuinely better in Google Workspace than in the alternatives.

Our rubber business sends daily price circulars to dealers. Anything to know?

Domain authentication, mainly. A revised rate sent from a domain with no SPF, DKIM or DMARC will land in some dealers' spam and not others, and nobody finds out which — which is a commercial problem rather than a technical one when prices move. Publishing those three records properly is part of the setup and costs nothing extra.

We are a college. Do we pay business prices?

Possibly not. Google offers Education editions to qualifying institutions, with Education Fundamentals available at no charge, and the criteria centre on accredited non-profit educational institutions. That is a different product line from the business editions entirely, and we confirm eligibility with Google before you plan a budget around it.

How is this priced?

Licences are at Google's India list price, invoiced in INR with GST against your GSTIN. Setup and migration are quoted as separate, explicit lines based on user count and what you are moving from, so you can see what each part costs rather than finding it folded into a rate. The requirement call and the quote are free.
